3 Biblical Characters

The three most influential characters in the bible apart from Jesus are Ester, Paul, and Sarah. All three people are vastly different but all furthered the kingdom of God in their own unique way. I am so glad that these people followed the will of god and fulfilled their purpose.

I chose Esther from the bible because she was a woman after god’s own heart. She was chosen to be queen of the Persian Empire when she was a teenager. In that day and age women did not have near as many rights as they had today. The king at the time made a decree that all of the Jews would be killed at one time. Ester herself was a Jew. She went before the king and risked her life in order to further the kingdom of god. Esther had lots of choices but her choosing to follow gods will made her the hero of that time period. The Jew’s lives were spared and she will be remembered forever as a woman after God’s own heart.

I chose the apostle Paul because of his impact. Paul was a man who went out and was a missionary in the Mediterranean region. He was put in chains and in jail for many different times in his life. One time in specific he was put in jail for preaching in the center of town, and immediately after he got out, he went out to the center of town and began preaching again. He was so faithful to god’s will and he followed it even though he was an “ambassador in chains”.

I chose Sarah, the wife of Abraham. She was prophesized that she would be given a child and be a leader of nations. She did not always believe it. But once she was very old, she was given a child well after her years. She was a faithful woman who followed and believed the will of God. All three of these people changed the lives of the Bible forever and were very influential to the will of God.

"The Filipino and the Drunkard"

In the story “The Filipino and the Drunkard”, written by William Saroyan I believe that the society or the people on the boat are the people who are the most responsible for what happened. It was a hard situation and stepping up to make a difference was hard to do. I can understand how the people on the boat did nothing but I believe that in the end it was there fault the drunkard was killed.

I believe that if the crowd had stepped up to take their place like they should have done this would have never happened. In this particular situation, the boy was literally helpless and could not fend for himself. He needed someone to come to his rescue and no one did. He fought back in what ever way that he possibly could. I don’t believe that killing the drunkard was right but I think that he chose to do that because he felt that was his only option. No one was being the bigger person to step up and help him so he helped himself. If I had been on the boat ride I would like to say that I would have gotten the drunk caught and captured, but I would probably have been caught up in the moment and not have had enough courage to step out. I know this position is wrong, but its reality. I think any bystander in that situation would have no idea what to do so they would just wait for someone else to step up.

Another situation where people tend to just stand by and let things happen is with beatings. Many children or spouses are verbally and physically abused by their parents or spouses and people know, but never tell. Those people’s lives are at risk and society tries to pretend as though it does not happen. Individuals in the society are responsible for letting authorities know. If they don’t they are playing a part of the hurting. If you were to know something and would not tell, you are indeed just as guilty as the person who was doing the beating. Other events around the world include abortions, theft, beating, bullying, cheating, and affairs. All of these events are life altering and the people who know won’t tell. What has our society come to where a person must virtually be killed for someone to step up or realize that something must be done? This is the sad reality of the world which we live in. We need to be aware of the hurting people in the world and step up whenever we see something like this happen, even if it means bad circumstances for us.

Dinner Party List

If I was going to host a dinner party the 5 people that I would most likely invite would be Katie Kruse, Emily Redmond, Toya Dodson, Christin Stehr, Alana Nardini, and Ashley Toups. I chose these people because all of these people have had a tremendous impact on my life. Katie Kruse always follows her conscience and she is a woman after god’s own heart. She has always been there for me and I know and have faith that she always will be. Katie has been through tough stuff in her life but she has come through on top. I would take Emily Redmond because I miss her so much. Emily lives in Alexandria, Louisiana where I previously lived. She has a pure heart and she is very honest to you. She has been a solid rock in my life and I’m not sure what I would do if she were not in my life. She is always true and honest and loves people.

I chose Toya Dodson because she has a heart for kids in high school. When I was upset or just needed someone to talk to, Toya was always there for me with open hands and would help me get through it. Toya is someone who absolutely follows her conscience. I chose Christin Stehr because she is so much fun to be around. She has so much energy and she will always do what is right even if no one else is following her. Her personality makes her different because she is bold in her thinking and will always make good choices. I chose Alana Nardini because she is blunt and she cares about all people. She is one of my best friends from my entire life. She understands me completely. She doesn’t judge people and she has a heart for others.

If these people were my guests the topics that we would probably talk about would be how our lives have been. We would give each other updates and see how much each of us has changed since we have last seen each other. We would probably have some conversations about how our faiths have changed and what God has been teaching us lately. We would be an encouragement to each other and help out whoever is not doing so well. If I were to have a dinner party with these people it would be the best ever. I am so thankful for these people in my life and if they came, I would be having the best time of my life.

Train Wreck

If a train was about to crash and I had the choice to kill one person to save five, or kill five to save the one, I would have much trouble choosing who to save. If the was an event where I had the choice to kill either the 5 people or the 1 I think I would choose the 5. This issue is definitely a moral issue because killing any person is bad but having to choose which side of people will die is horrible. I am torn between the two but I would choose the one over the five. Having to deal with the guilt of choosing one group over the other would bother me for a long time. I would constantly be thinking of what would have become of the five people or over that one person. By killing the five people I would be changing five families lives forever where as if I had just killed one, I would have only been affecting that family and the others would most likely be eternally grateful.

By saving the 5 people you are giving four more people a continued chance of living. The choice would be in my hands and I would rather kill one to save many. I don’t think that I could even bear the guilt of killing the five for the one. I would be able to feel less guilty if I had killed only one. I would try to explain to the one family the choice that I had to make and I would hope that I would understand why I chose to kill the one over the five. Either choice is extremely difficult as neither of the choices are very good. I would have a very difficult time choosing a choice in this situation.

Jesus

I chose this picture of Jesus because to me Jesus is the ultimate comforter and the defender of he weak.  In this picture Jesus is holding someone in his arms, which to me says that his love never fails.  Even in the darkest of times, Jesus is they’re holding us fast to him.  He will never leave us or forsake us. Jesus to me holds us under his wing and protects us form the dangers of life.  He stands with us through it all and prevails above all else.  Jesus is comforter of the weak, protector and sustainer.  His love never leaves.

Moral Issue #2

The news article I read about was about Rev. Terry Jones planning to burn a bunch of Quran’s on September 11,2110. This act was to symbolize his hatred towards the Muslim faith and to make a statement about 9/11. Some people ask whether or not he was doing from a religious aspect or just wanting to get attention. I can understand where he is coming from but at the same time, all Muslim’s are not out to kill people. I think that he is in a since just out for attention.
In my opinion Rev. was truly upset about 9/11 and just wanted something to take his anger out on. He could have planned to express his anger in a more rational way though. The only thing he is going to get by burning the Quran is a bunch of angry Muslims. Just because it was the Muslims who bombed the sights of 9/11 that does no mean that all Muslims are out to get people. The preacher should be putting things into perspective and quit generalizing about bad people.

Moral Issue #1

The news article I read about was on abortion.  Abortion is a huge moral issue because some people believe it is killing a life.  The article tells about a new pill they have discovered called Misoprostol.  It works for anyone up to 9 weeks of pregnancy.  In my opinion abortion is completely wrong in any way shape or form because it is taking a life that is not yours to take.  In Dr. Seuss’ own words, a person is a person no matter how small.  Even if the fetus cannot hear yet it is still a person and how would you feel if you were aborted before you could even breathe.
I understand that some women medically cannot have a child so they have to abort but most people do it because they cannot afford it are scared of the relationship they would be in and the everyday effects it would have on there life.  Women should not be so selfish to abort because of their priorities.  It was your mistake and you should not make the child pay any longer for it.  Women should take the initiative and keep it.  Abortion is wrong in any form and should have never been legalized.  This pill will only further abortions making them cheaper and easier and should be banned by the government as soon as possible.
